Dear, traveller, this tour is enormous and so take time for it. We advise you to start in the early morning or to plan to stand one night in Ronda. It can be possible that the tour will take 10 hours.

We begin our tour in Marbella. We have the benefit to have the sun behind us during our tour and so the tour will be comfortable. From where you´ll start it´s up to you. To start from Marbella you can drive quick on the motorway or on the coastal road. After Estepona it´s the normal road and so you can´t drive so quick.

On this tour there is no time to turn off to the direction of Gibraltar. The wonderful part of this tour begins by Los Barrios, where we´ll enjoy the feeling of the wild West of Spain. A warning which you should notice: On this road there are a lots of "No Passing" signs. Keep to it, because be sure there is police behind the bushes and is waiting for traffic offenders. Possible that this is the only income here in this area. :-) But now we start travelling through the wildlife park of Serrania de Ronda. Here the noble bulls will be breeded and all interest is about Bullfight and Cowboys. The fights itselfs are in the citizens, but here the bulls can enjoy their life and they are well-groomed. Large pastureland is only for a few bulls and poultry. Our hope to drive directly to one of the lakes...forget it. You need to make a detour, so that one day wouldn´t be enough. However the land is mostly privat and you can only have an idea about the wealth of the owners, who partly ride on horseback to the next local.

On the way you receive a service area "Los Corzos" Area de servicio LAPALMOSA, which must be s.th. like the only meeting point for Cowboys and landowners in this wilderness. Here you´ll find a Hotel, a Venta (Restaurant) and wild characters with rakish faces and proud gentlemen with their ladies, who stop by the bar with the many hams to get the newest informations. Internet will not exist here, we thought at once. You feel that time must have stopped. But who will know it, perhaps after the work the Cowboy has time to go online?

By Alcalá de los Gazules we turn off right to the direction of Ronda/Ubrique. The town Alcalá de los Gazules is very interesting and we were impressed about the people, who are living here in the wilderness with proudness and contentment. But now we enjoy the nature. The following way is very small and don´t look to the surroundings too long while driving. The view is enormous and those of the experts will say, that there must be mushrooms.

Your estimation is right. You´ll find until Ronda always forests which invite you to go mushrooming. But the bon vivant is waiting and enjoys the surroundings. But then....

Some steps into the forest and the evening meal is perfect. Some button mushrooms in the wood? At once you´re afraid of toadstools. There are no button mushrooms with white lamellas. It would be fatal and the name of this toadstool is the white death cup. These 3 button mushrooms on the photo above have each a diameter of 15cm. We are sure that the forest offers also other mushrooms.

After a few kilometres we come to a turn-off to Ubrique. We can say, that it is better to turn off right, because now we drive through the fantastic rocky mountains. Situated in this area is the lovely town Cortes de la Frontera.

The mountains look sometimes as if covered with snow. Driving on to the direction of Ronda the mountains will become more impressive. You reach an observation point named Cueva de la Pileta with a little bridge over a canyon with a stunning view. You come to a cave with the rock paintings of the very early times (Paläolithikum). Then we continue driving and reach the turn-off to Jimena de Libar. Here you keep left and don´t drive to the town on the right hand. On the street sign for the right direction you can read Ronda / Montejaque. You can also drive the other direction, but it´s difficult and our suggestion is the more beautiful way. Besides the road is better constructed.

After several kilometres we´ll come to the town Benaoján. Indeed well situated in the mountains, don´t you think so?

Wonderful landscape in the afternoon sun. Don´t be taken by. It is autumn, the beginning of November and a little shower makes the hills appear with juicy green. The vastness of this region and the silence makes you feel your mind to be one part with the nature.

We drive to the direction of Ronda. You will see the next street sign with the word Ronda. The street continues through the rocks and the canyons. The barren landscape changes in a wide valley with juicy meadows and the sun shines on the field and you can enjoy a fantastic play of colours. Ronda, the old town built up on a rock is waiting for us in the far distance. This tour is enormous and the lots of impressions must be digested. A blessing for those who can stand the night in Ronda and to be able to have the time to enjoy the lovely town with its lights and its little Cafés, Bars and Restaurants for the final of this tour. Visit Ronda and go shopping to get a bargain of the fashion shops and the leathergoods.

For all the others who make the tour on one day the travel continues now to the direction of Marbella, or better to the direction of San Pedro de Alcántara (45KM), which is written on the street sign in Ronda. But it is a new constructed road. If you want to see the sunset over the sea then you should be punctual just before Marbella. You can have then a stunning view to Africa and Gibraltar. But for Ronda we would change every sunset. Ronda at night is a real event. And a sunset can be seen also from Ronda.
